This three session course traces the evolution of Israeli culture from its origins to the present.
The following themes are covered in the course:
a. Zionism’s process of creating a revolutionary Jewish culture in order to safeguard Jewish existence;
b. The impact that different groups of Jews, from many regions of the world, have had on Israel’s culture and society;
c. Tensions that exist between different demographic and religious groups in Israel;
d. Representations of different segments of Israeli society in popular cultural outlets including music, literature, and other media.
